Airhart met his adoptive family this morning! He is going to a great home in Houston, Texas! Thank you, Nick and Monica! It was sad to say goodbye to him, but I know he is going to a loving home. Mission accomplished!

Last night for the first time since I brought Airhart home, I loaded both dogs into my car and set out to run some errands. I drive a Mini Cooper Convertible; quite a small car. And with a weimie hanging out of the backseat window on each side, we were really turning heads! It was VERY funny. He seems to do well riding in the car, although he's still learning how to get in and get out of the car.

His house training is coming along, too. He's only had 2 accidents since I brought him home. (The first one, I just had no idea that he wasn't house trained, so that was understandable.) We've graduated from 4 hours, to 6 to a full work day of him being in his crate while I am at work. No accidents in the crate at all! And when he hears me come home, he waits nicely inside until I come to open the door. He's a smart boy.

He continues to be the snuggle boy. He just burrows into your arms! I didn't know a weim could be this calm. (I'm told that boys are easier than girls...) I think he is just so starved for affection, poor little guy. I still haven't heard him bark. And, despite being a boy, he still squats to pee. He doesn't "counter surf" yet... If you leave him outside and go inside, he does jump up on the screen door. He wants to be where the people are! If you tell him "no," however, he gets down right away.

I gave him his first stuffed and frozen kong toy last night. At first, he was disinterested; but then he realized there was FOOD in it and holy cow! He stayed with it until he got every last morsel out! He's learning to be a puppy; running with sticks in the backyard, begging to be chased, and emptying the toy basket in the kitchen. As he gets more familiar with my house and the routine, he's starting to behave more like puppy.

Post #3: Jan. 23, 2005 - Things I've Learned

1. You simply cannot snuggle with Airhart enough to satisfy him.
2. He knows "kennel" and happily hops in with no complaints.
3. He will sleep through the night if you let him.
4. He walks nicely on a leash. (Puts my dog to shame!)
5. He will, left unsupervised, chew whatever is nearby. But when caught, you only need to tell him "no" once. And, given an alternative (kong, rawhide) he's quite pleased to use that instead.
6. He is mesmerized by big yellow school buses.
7. When you walk two weims simultaneously, you must have 2 leashes the same length...
8. He has no problem at all standing there while you hose off his feet before coming inside from romping in the mud.
9. He does the "spead eagle" thing to avoid being set into the bathtub, but once in there he doesn't act like an escape artist.
10. Where ever I am for more than 2 minutes, he's crashed at my feet. When I shower, he curls up on the bathmat.
11. You've never felt such soft velvet-y fur. And so shiny!
12. He's discovered he can entice Greta into wrestling with little or no effort. She is a very willing participant.
13. One thing I don't know? If he can bark! Haven't heard a peep yet!

He is a happy dog. A happy, happy dog. By Sunday night I had two VERY tired weimies on my rug! It's a beautiful thing.

Post #2: Jan. 21, 2006 - Our first full day

Airhart did really well his first night here. We've determined he is not house trained, but he is fast learner! Greta is showing him the ropes -- and he's only had one accident indoors.

He's getting braver in the backyard, exploring the trails and chewing on sticks, and helping Greta chase the ball indoors. He walks nicely on a leash and knows what "no" means, and the command "sit."

Last night Airhart was laying the rug, and Greta came and stood over him. Airhart would lick Greta's ears and loosely chew on the underside of her neck. My rescue coordinator tells me this is a weim trait called "nooking" and that it's the weimie way of showing affection. So cute!

He is fitting in great so far; Greta is fine with sharing her beds and toys, and isn't even jealous when I snuggle with him on the rug. I think she knows he's had a hard time of it lately and is being the perfect hostess!

I brought Airhart home from rescue tonight! He is welcomed into my home by my 5 1/2 year old weimaraner, Greta. Because he is a rescue, I don't know yet if he is crate trained or house trained. He has just had his tail docked this week, and he has a beautiful coat! He is a bit skittish but he rode so nicely in the car on the way home! We are so pleased to able to be his stepping stone until he finds a permanent adoptive family!

He looks very sweet. I've sent in my adoption forms to weinrescue, and requested a girl, but after reading your post, I would like to meet Airhart if he is still available. Thanks very much.
